What are the different types of laser scanning?

How does 3D Laser Scanning work?

3D laser scanning using Lidar sends out pulsed laser light and then measures the time of reflection, calculating a distance.
This process happens thousands of times per second, and some scanners can achieve up to 2 million “measurements” per second.
At the same time, the scanner typically turns in a 360 rotation, measuring everything in visible sight. Every measurement is a point. And every point has an x. y. x coordinate.
The result is an exact 3D digital replica of up to 2,940,000 points for each scan. This digital replica is also called a point cloud with various uses, from 3D modeling, BIM, crime scene investigation, historical documentation, etc.
